Many thanks for the informative post. My wife's calling me for dinner So I require to operate off without having reading as much as I'd like. But I put your weblog on my RSS feed to ensure that I can study a lot more.

Throw away the key? There's a key? Weld the door shut.

Ryan - I like how you make a distinction regarding the right time and place to discuss issues. A healthy viewpoint we should all adopt.

"The expense to put Polanski on trial is insignificant compared to the precedent that would be set that no matter how famous, rich, or important you are, the law will still apply. That benefit would far exceed the cost in my opinion."
Wow, I couldn't agree more.
I have spent a considerable amount of time considering the personal lives of the artists whose art I enjoy, and gladly make a distinction between an artist's personal life and their work. But in this case, the work has nothing to do with the crime. The two are absolutely disparate in every possible way.

As for the idea that time has passed and bygones should be as such, I can promise, that if that 13 year old were my little girl... oh yes, Ryan's Rule. I don't want to get angry for no reason here. I'll say no more, except that justice delayed is still justice.

I try not to say stuff that could be inflammatory, so there are a few topics I won't discuss on twitter or when not in person.

This is not one of those. In fact, this is one of those moments where I'm perfectly happy to let everyone know in no uncertain terms exactly what I think:

Regarding Polanski, I have but four words: Throw away the key.

For the life of me, I can't understand the 'rape-rape' mentality. Rape is forced, unwanted sexual acts. Period. While I agree that certain laws need to have some degrees of difference (perjury being one of them), rape doesn't fall into that category at all.
